Burgundy Direct Wines was established in 1988 by former Army officer Conor Richardson. In the past 30 years Conor has established the company as Ireland’s foremost representative of France’s most fabled wine region. Burgundy represents “elegance, delicacy & sensuality. No other grape has proved as elusive yet as magical. I fell in love with their sensuality, fragrance and compelling complexities”, says Conor.
The company’s origin happened at a time (early 1980’s) when Burgundy's representatives in the Irish market were almost exclusively negotiant (merchant) bottlings. Very few individual domaine-bottled wines could be sourced here, either in the retail or restaurant sector. To a large degree, Conor pioneered individual Burgundy growers by bringing them directly to his Irish clientele. From an initial three domaines in 1988, Burgundy Direct Wines (BDW) now exclusively represents over twenty domaines in this country. Many, it must be said, are some of the most reputed domaines in the whole of France - let alone Burgundy.
For 30 years now, through BDW, Irish consumers can access wines from Anne Gros, Christian Serafin, Robert Chevillon, Comte Georges de Vogue, Vincent Dancer, Patrick Javillier, Vincent Rapet, Jean-Marc Joblot and many more.
A small, selective & high quality operation, Burgundy Direct Wines has gained considerable media attention for both its knowledge of Burgundy & the selectiveness of its operation. Irish consumers have greatly benefited from this hands-on, intimate & specialised sourcing that is Conor’s modus operandi. No other Irish wine company offers such a comprehensive and exclusive portfolio of Burgundy red & white wines.
In February each year BDW publish their offering of Burgundy’s most recently released vintage. This year BDW released its 26th consecutive offer – the 2017 Burgundy Vintage. After six years, Burgundy has finally produced a vintage of good volume and fine quality; thus easing pricing pressure and ensuring good availability. In addition to his Burgundy portfolio, Conor imports from other areas within France and a small number from Germany, Portugal & Italy. These wines are selected with equal diligence and offer fine quality and good pricing.
The company is run as a Mail Order, wholesale business. Sales are by the case of 12 bottles only. Cases may be mixed / tailored to suit your preferences. Mixed cases may be ordered from any origin on the list.
Feel comfortable to enquire; there is no commercial 'push' to purchase. Conor is happy to advise.
